HI All,I want to tell you all about an event that i originated and it will actually be performed toward the end of Nov. I read the book "Joys and Sorrows" by Pablo Casals as told to Albert Kahn written in 1970, 3 years before Casals died. If you don't know him, he was a famous cellist, but that isn't the reason i wanted to honor him. His life was devoted not only to music but to bringing peace to the world. After reading it, and seeing the poster on my wall from the 80's of the Concert for Survival by Musicians for Nuclear Disarmament at Orchestra Hall, i thought it was time for another concert for survival or at least one for peace. So, we have been working on it for a long time. There is even a cellist coming from NY City, James David Jacobs. I had saved a letter i saw in Harper's Mag way last Feb. from him and in this letter he mentioned Pablo Casals, so i googled him and found that he was a cellist in NY. I emailed him, told him what we were doing, and he must have the same passion for Pablo that i have, because he wrote back saying he wanted to come and play in it, and he is. It has all been quite a time with this whole thing, and i cannot believe it will ever happen. The original committee met at a restaurant in Mpls. (AMASTE on Hennepin) and while we were talking ab. it, 2 young people came over and said they wanted to be a part of it and the one young man was a recent grad of Carlton and is a concert violinist and composer. He will be playing a piece he is composing. We met w/Philip Brunelle at Plymouth Cong. Church and he gave us the Sanctuary free and also his support and his confidence, which , to me, was astounding, as we really didn't know alot about what we were doing. We didn't tell him that. I am hoping that you can attend this marvelous event. It is sponsored by WAMM. I am also going to ask that if any of you want to help in some kind of a monetary way, it would be greatly appreciated. We have no money, of course. We will have bills. We will pay for the air fare for the cellist from NY, plus other things. So, if you feel like you want to, you can email me and let me know. We can even put your name on the flyer like the donors who give to the Guthrie. Or, maybe you know of a business who would like to be a monetary sponsor. If we do make any money, it will go to WAMM.
The flyer will come next. Thanks for listening. Patty
