HI, This Tuesday, after a month's hiatus, we will start up the salons with a documentary and discussion on Dorothy Day.
Steve Pastick will show the film. Hope to see you,
Thanks,
 patty

Don't Call Me a saint tells the story of the New York writer and social reformer whom the Vatican is considering for canonization but Dorothy is no ordinary saint. (She was once a Communist; journalist; novelist; had an abortion; was a single mom who converted to Catholicism; because of Christ, became a pacifist and became one with the poor.) The film begins at the height of the Depression with Dorothy meeting the French peasant philosopher, Peter Maurin. Together they created the Catholic Worker, a peace and justice movement that persists to this day in hospitality houses and soup kitchens around the world. Dorothy was shot at by the Ku Klux Klan, there were arrests for public protests, and her movement raised the ire of both Church and State. In 1980 Dorothy died in the home she founded for homeless women on the Bowery."

This is the first in depth documentary about the controversial Catholic lay woman. It is directed by Claudia Larson. Come and see why so many consider her a hero and feel that she is a much needed Saint for the United States.

Remember: Jesus was a community organizer and Pontius Pilot was a governor.
