Dear Patty,

Thank you so much for your help! (You are an answer to prayer. I've
been up late nights since late November working on the web site,
writing letters, emails, scanning news, etc. as I'm so compelled to do
something. Sometimes I get discouraged, but your note is
encouraging.)

Last week, my friend stepped up and said she'd help, too. I met with
her, and she is going to try and get her college (small business
college here in Detroit area) on board. She has also agreed to be a
board member; that was my other piece of good news that helped me to
keep plugging away. I have a 3rd person (professional who is already
on a board) who I'm going to ask; after that, I will get going on
paperwork. As soon as I choose a name and incorporate, I'll let you
know. (I've been writing to some orgs and a couple churches for
help...but my gut instinct is that most larger organizations want to
deal with and org that is already incorporated. UNA-DRC is a formal
org in the Congo, but not in the U.S. After two months of writing
letters and trying to spark interest, I've decided to start the
papers, especially since Val agreed to help. (She is a go-getter, so
she will be perfect.)

I'm also going to try to find corporate support to hold a fund raiser
here in Detroit - a smaller concert. (And if I can find support, I
would do a large one. I'm just not sure what to expect; the economy
in Detroit is rather bad, worse in the country.)

Anyway, I will send Cissa an email to tell him that my comment-posting
on the CBS site is getting noticed. He sent me an email yesterday to
tell me the article was posted. (I didn't even know about the show.)
He's at the Goma peace conference which ends on the 17th. (He was
hoping CBS would post the web-site. I'm going to try to find the
correct person to contact, but I realize that CBS is a large
bureaucracy and they might already have their group of contacts with
an establishished relationship.)

Thank you again for your note and your offer to help - it's very
timely and hopeful to me as I'm getting quite burned out.

love & warm thoughts,

Diane

Dear Diane,
Thank you for your quick response and thank you for your help in this
sorely needed project. I will be sending you money directly as i
always have trouble w/Pay pal. First, tho, i am asking a group that i

will email you again, and let you know when i will be sending the
money. Love, patty

Dear Patty,

Thank you for your email. (It's very encouraging.) As you might
have
seen on the site, I built the site as a student with Univ. Of
Michigan
(which is how I met Dr. Cissa Wa Numbe and partnered with him to
help
UNA-DRC). It was late November when he asked me to help with the
bed
net campaign as the U.S. contact. (After all that I've learned
about
D.R. Congo, I was motivated to help.)

You can use the PayPal link for a checking account or credit card
donation (on the web site
http://www.amanidrc.org/one-net-one-life.htm#support )
<http://www.amanidrc.org/one-net-one-life.htm>

If you'd rather mail a check, you can mail it to me in the U.S. it
would be:

D. Western, P.O. Box 4313, Troy, MI 48099

If you'd rather make the check out directly to UNA-DRC, then I would
have to mail it to the Congo. (I'm not sure how good the mail
system
would be in Africa. I would probably send the check to the U.K.
partners and ask them to hold it or see if any one is going to the
Congo.) Or if you would rather, I can give you an address in the
U.K.

I decided last week to go ahead and apply for a 501c3 tax emempt
status as I really want to make a huge effort to raise funds for the
bed nets campaign. I will be filing for a corporate status; then
the
IRS tax exempt status takes from 3 to 9 months. At this point, I'm
collecting funds with the understanding that I will hand all the
monies over to UNA-DRC. Unfortunately, setting up all of this takes
time, and we just started this part of the program for the U.S.
(UNA-DRC has existed in the Congo for many years.)

All of this began when I started working on this project for
graduate
school. I'm just a regular citizen who became totally captured by
the
whole project when I started learning about how dreadful things are
in
the Congo.

At any rate, could you please let me know if you mail something to
the
PO Box; then I would be sure to check the box more often than I
usually do. If you use PayPal, I would receive an email notice.

Anyway, sorry for the long-winded email. I really appreciate you
supporting this effort. It's been very difficult as I'm doing all
of
this along with my regular homework. Like you probably feel, I'm
very
motivated to help.

Thank you again,

Best regards,
