No War for the Holidays: Stop Bombing Iraq & Syria TONIGHT Wednesday, November 26, 4:30 p.m. Lake Street/ Marshall Avenue Bridge, signs available on the St. Paul side of the bridge. On the evening before the Thanksgiving holiday, join the Wednesday peace vigil to say NO to war. A new chapter of US war in the Middle East, the bombing campaigns in Iraq and Syria, has been opened. Additional troops and 'advisors' are being sent. This new chapter of war and intervention could last for years to come. Pierce retired as a Major in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps in November 2012. His last assignment was as defense counsel in the Office of Chief Defense Counsel, Office of Military Commissions where he represented Guantanamo prisoners. He remains on a case currently before the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. FFI: Visit Facebook 8. 30th Annual Minnesota Homeless Memorial March and Service Thursday, December 18, 5:00 p.m. (March and Silent Vigil) Hennepin County Government Center, 3rd Avenue and 5th Street South, Minneapolis 6:30 p.m. (Service of Remembrance) Simpson United Methodist Church, 2740 1st Avenue South, Minneapolis 7:30 p.m. (Community Meal). Simpson staff and volunteers witnessed many people experiencing homelessness who die without anyone honoring their life. In December of 1984, the first official Minnesota homeless memorial was held, launching the collaboration between Simpson and The Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless (MCH) that exists to this day. Each year, marchers carry individual signs with the name, age, and hometown of every person being honored. A candle is then lit for each individual while their name is read. Community meal follows.
