PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Cassandra Snow Email: gadflytheatre [at] gmail.com Gadfly Theatre Productions Presents The Final Frontier Festival A One-Act Geek Fest Fitting Our Queer and Feminist Mission May 12th, 2014 (Minneapolis/St. Paul) -- Join us as SIX Sci-Fi and Fantasy one-act plays that fit Gadfly Theatre Productions’ queer and feminist mission take over Nimbus Theatre this June! Going where few LGBQTIA* and feminist artists have gone before, The Final Frontier Festival takes recent conversations about the way marginalized people are treated in geek culture and puts a progressive but still wildly entertaining response on stage. The six shows featured are: - Who Killed Captain Kirk? by Paco Madden; a murder mystery set at a Star Trek convention. - A play about a nearly perfectly designed fembot becoming self aware entitled The Wolves Above by Alyssa Zaczek. - Love Bot by local playwright Matthew A. Everett, in which a gay and a lesbian astronaut are charged with repopulating the world. - A one-woman show about returning home chock full of magical realism and steeped in Christian mythology called Honest to God by J.C. Pankratz. - Falling Awake by Alexis Scheer, where the characters are grappling with grief in a way that transcends space and time. - A hilarious and spot-on takedown of platonic ideals and various geek mythologies--the show is Gargle McFury Slays Gender Essentialism by Alex Reed. The Final Frontier Festival is broken into two sets that run in repertory June 13th-22nd at Nimbus Theatre in Northeast Minneapolis. Featuring the work of over 30 queer, feminist, and allied directors, playwrights, actors, and technicians, Gadfly’s dedication to inclusive and relatable--or “uniquely universal” work continues with this festival. While set in other worlds, laced with magic, or taking place far, far in the future, these six shows still contain characters and materials our regular audience will love--namely likeable queer and feminist characters and messaging that is progressive, PLUS a fun exploration of the growing crossover between geek, queer, and feminist cultures. Gadfly Theatre Productions hosts a FREE salon for the public for each of it’s productions. This one will be held at Boneshaker Books on Wednesday, June 4th at 6:00 P.M. This event is free, features complimentary refreshments from local vendors, guest speakers,, and face time with Gadfly artists and company members themselves. This show is brought to you by all of our donors and sponsors, but especially the Minnesota Jaycees of Shakopee.
