PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Cassandra Snow TELEPHONE: 612-607-3791 Email: gadflytheatre [at] gmail.com * Gadfly Theatre Productions Presents “QUEER!”* May 22, 2013 (Minneapolis/St. Paul) -- Gadfly Theatre Productions is staging a new performance arts piece, *QUEER!*, that confronts the marginalization queer people face not only from the world at large, but even within the queer community. It was written in house by Gadfly Theatre founders and Co-Artistic Directors Immanuel Elliott and Cassandra Snow and is comprised of monologues and short scenes taken from open calls for submissions and a series of interviews conducted throughout the past couple of years. *QUEER! *will be produced at Lowry Lab Theatre in downtown Saint Paul and will open to the public on Pride Weekend (June 28-29) and run through July 14. The production is bold, frank, and unapologetic. It features stories from people from all along the spectrum and perspectives that aren’t normally given a voice on Twin Cities stages. Snow says “We wanted to showcase the common thread that binds those of us in the queer community, and tell stories of people that are relatable but that you wouldn't otherwise hear. We wanted to show the pain we cause each other without meaning to, in hopes of stopping that habit--and weave a hopeful thread for a unified future.” Patience Hughes, an artist involved in *QUEER! *explains the performance this way, “This play attempts to include everyone in the spectrum. People who express emotional and sexual desires outside the norm are often labeled by others simply so they can understand their placement in our society. It is time to open the doors wide open on just what GLBTQ means.” *QUEER!* will premiere at the National Because Conference on June 9th which is presented by BOP (Bisexual Organizing Project). More information about the Because Conference is available at http://www.becauseconference.org. Advance tickets sales start as low as $5 on Pay-What-You-Can days and general admission adult tickets are $15 for any performance. No matter what your own identity or intimacy with the queer and allied community, there will be a story that speaks to you. Gadfly Theatre artist, Jim Larsen contends that when experiencing *QUEER!*, “No matter what you think you know about the GLBT community, you learn a great deal more.” *About Gadfly Theatre Productions:* Gadfly Theatre Productions is currently in their third season of queer, feminist, and experimental art.
