*What:* One Year Since Occupy: How Can We Change Society for the Better? *When: *August 25 from 7:00-9:00pm *Where: *The Book House in Dinkytown (429 SE 14th Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55414) It has been nearly one year since a handful of people gathered in New York City's Zuccotti Park in a protest that sparked a worldwide movement. It brought to the forefront of American discourse the increasing disparity of wealth, rising poverty, and rampant greed and corruption in business and government. Hundreds of thousands around the country began to debate the problems facing society, and proposed various solutions. But what has become of these discussions? What concrete and fundamental change has come about? Have the living conditions of the 99% improved as a result? Can the masses really effect change by simply protesting in the streets and calling on those in power -- the 1% -- to fix things? Or are different methods and a more fundamental change of society necessary? What is the way forward for Occupy on its one-year anniversary? How can we truly fix society's problems and build a better society? Join Occupy Wall Street participants and *Socialist Appeal* contributing editors Tom Trottier (NY) and Mark Rahman (NJ) for a discussion on the fundamental contradictions and antagonisms that lie at the heart of what the Occupy movement tried to address: the crisis of the capitalist system itself and the need for socialism. *For more information please contact wil [at] socialistappeal.org or call (612) 293-9247 and leave a message. * *Visit us online at www.socialistappeal.org* -- Shequaya
