now to 2/1, film "Babel" about random gun accident in Morocco which causes
havoc with a US couple, a deaf Japanese teen and a Mexican nanny with two US
children, none of whom can communicate with each other, Lagoon Theater, 1320

wrote to complain that this film didn't really belong on a peace calendar,
since it glorified violence and even portrayed violence as inevitable.
Since I wrote about that reaction, two other loyal readers have written to
disagree.  Both agree that the film is violent, but both thought that it was
an inditement rather than praise of violence and both recommended it,
although with serious age restrictions.  I haven't seen the film, so I can
only mention the discussion is has provoked.)
