Maybe people are just exhausted. These wars have been raging for 13 years now
with no end in sight, despite 13 years of protest (and people did connect the
dots- remember "no blood for oil"? It was always understood that these wars
had everything to do with oil. Now Obama has just re-invaded Iraq and I'm not
seeing a whole lot of rage over it, at least not the same kind of mass street
demos we used to see in the Bush era. Maybe people just don't see the Marv
Davidov style of civil disobedience accomplishing much of anything anymore-
it's still business as usual, despite all those years of protest, trials and
jail time. I think we need to reinvent ourselves here, and yes, invite vets to
participate. "Support our troops" has become a secular religion in the U.S.
and there's so much fear around saying or doing anything that might be
construed as being "unpatriotic". Environmentalists seem to me to be
especially wary of upsetting the mainstream. Kurt Seaberg

Thanks for your comments. FYI: The Waging Peace workshop today with Vets for
Peace local activists and guest presenter Paul Chappell was really inspiring
and he speaks to the public on Monday evening at Landmark Ctr in St. Paul.. I
think that we have lots to offer each other on Dec. 9 ---from our own hearts
and experiences. Thanks for Patty and Susu for arranging it. I hope that alot
of us can be there.
Rebecca
