Hi, i don't know if any of you have read Colin Nelson's books----Fallout and
Reprisal. . He will be w/the salon next Tuesday and we will hear his
descriptions of the former, and perhaps it will lead into interesting
discussions. He sent out the following :

Patty-- I hope things are going well with you. I'm looking forward to meeting
your "crew" at the Salon on April 16. As you requested, I've included some
discussion questions that could start us out. I also have many stories about
criminals and the courts--some tragic, some funny, that I often tell audiences.
Those stories lead to discussions. So, in no special order, here are some
topics we could cover:
1. How is the idea of tolerance demonstrated in the story?
2. What's it like to be a feminist and a progressive Muslim in American today?
3. How did I research the character of Zehra?
4. Do domestic terrorists really exist? Isn't someone "doing something about
them?"
5. Can investigators really get as much private information off of smart
phones as they do in the story? What about other technology like our laptops?
6. Are the problems of trafficking of people and contraband still occurring?
7. How does Zehra overcome her challenges: PTSD, her case in trial falling
apart, her relationship with Paul?
8. Why would a prosecutor either pursue a criminal case or dismiss it? What
powers does a prosecutor have?
9. Let's talk about the "maneuvering" the lawyers and judge do behind closed
doors?

Let me know if you'd like more discussion ideas. Thanks, Colin

I am also going to send you an article by Margaret Sarfehjooy from the WAMM
newsletter on Islamophobia. (the word isn't even in the dictionaries yet, as it
was red-lined) . Not that i think his book promotes this, but it may be good
to read before discussion. By the way, has anyone read either of the books
by Colin?

Thanks,
patty
