HI , This Tuesday is the Little Book of the Odd Month Club and we have been reading Early Candlelight by Maud Hart Lovelace. I can't believe i have liked this book so much. It is a romantic tale, historic fiction, of early Fort Snelling and it has won a lasting place in the hearts of Minnesota readers. It takes place during the years of the 1830's and early 1840's. Her description of the land, and her lovely metaphor are so charming. Here is one description i loved: "The rain on the river was like a sheet of steel pricked into tiny points." And, "even a treeless prairie holds June on a jade plate. If you have not read it, try and get a copy and do so. Hopefully, we can make a visit to the Henry H. Sibley house in Mendota. Thanks, patty
