The message below is (I think) a reply to Rahn Westby from Tim Fullerton of Oxfam America . Patty tried to forward it to the Paxsalon list but due to format problems that failed. I've tried to clean it up and post it. Fred, listserv manager PS see also my related messsage about the film Corn King currently showing in Mpls. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Rahn, It has been an up and down year working on the Farm Bill. It is very hard challenging the status quo on Capitol Hill, but as a member of the Farm Bill Action Team you have been there with us the entire way. By sending tens of thousands of emails, faxes and phone calls, Congress is starting to hear our call: poor farmers here and abroad shouldn't suffer so that American millionaires can farm the government for subsidies. After many false starts and plenty of partisan wrangling, it was announced last Friday that the Senate will finally resume consideration of the Farm Bill tomorrow. This appears to be our last chance to reform the Farm Bill and we need your help one final time. Let's rally together as a strong 8,000 member team for one last push for reform! Two key amendments that would fight poverty and injustice, the Dorgan-Grassley Payment Limits Amendment and the Lugar-Lautenberg FRESH Amendment, could be up for a vote as early as tomorrow. We need you to call your Senators now and ask them to vote yes in favor of these two key amendments. Phone calls from constituents can influence the way your senators' will vote. Even if you called in the past, it is important that you call again. Call today and make your voice heard! It's fast and simple, and it will make a big difference. And to make it easier, we are providing a script for you to use below. Sincerely, Tim Fullerton Oxfam America Please follow these simple instructions. 1. Call 1-800-977-1912 and listen to the prerecorded message. 2. An automated message will tell you what to say. 3. Please enter this six-digit code: 047826#. 4. You will be connected to Senator Coleman's office. 5. Hang up and call Senator Klobuchar using the toll free number and the code 347826# Hello, my name is <YOUR NAME> and I'm a voting constituent from <YOUR CITY> , Minnesota. I would like you to vote yes on the Dorgan-Grassley Payment Limits Amendment and on the Lugar-Lautenberg FRESH Amendment to the Farm Bill. These amendments will reduce unfair subsidies and shift funds to programs that feed hungry families, protect the environment, and help poor and minority farmers. Thank you for your time. Special interest groups are working hard to defeat these amendments and protect the status quo, so it is critical that you call today. Senators listen to their constituents. Make sure they hear from you! Thank you again for your fantastic efforts throughout this long fight and for using your voice again to improve the lives of poor farming families at home and abroad.
