The Palestine Papers
Saturday, April 16, 9:30 a.m. (Refreshments); 10:00 a.m. (Program and
Discussion) Southdale Hennepin County Library, 7001 York Avenue South,
Edina.

Leaked documents pertaining to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations which
include the proceedings and discussions from behind closed door meetings
at the highest levels caused an uproar across the Arab world. These
documents known as the Palestine Papers were not nearly as publicized in
the western media as Wikileaks. Released by Al Jazeera between January 23
and 26, 2011, there are nearly 1,700 files, thousands of pages of
diplomatic correspondence detailing the inner workings of the
Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The panelists (Khaled Elgindy, Noura
Erakat & Mark Perry) discuss the contents of these leaks, the coverage by
Al Jazeera and the "Guardian," and what effect they may have on
the Palestinian Authority and the future of negotiations. This video will
be followed by discussion. Sponsored by: Middle East Peace Now (MEPN).

DEPLETED GERANIUMS and other stories reflecting environmental
devastation from war (or EARTH DAY AT MAYDAY)
April 16, 4 p.m. at Mayday Books, 301 Cedar So. in Mpls. It's Earth Day
at Mayday

Deep stories from experience, as well as those from books like THE WORLD
ACCORDING TO MONSANTO, on Mayday's shelves.

Bert Berlowe: Minnesota Alliance of Peacemakers; Author/Publisher of
THE COMPASSIONATE REBEL
Dave Culver: Veterans for Peace; Editor of EVERGREEN DIGEST
Larry Johnson: Environmental Storyteller/"Musician" and President of
Veterans for Peace
Chante Wolf: Gulf War Veteran for Peace; Author/Speaker/Artist

Bert, Dave, Larry, and Chante will tell their stories for about an hour,
and then leave some room for the stories that emerge from others in the
room.

Parking will be hard, as Midwest Mountaineering's enormous Spring Expo
will be in process. However, with a little planning, light rail, or the
2, 7, or 22 busses would allow you to park in a free zone not too far away
and get out right by Mayday. Done right, you could get there and back on
one fare of $1.75 regular or $.75 for 65 or over. While the legislature
moves on devastating public transit cuts because too many won't consider
raising taxes on those most able to profit from war, you could get to
Mayday by experientially immersing yourself in the GREEN ZONE statistic
that the U.S. military spends enough on oil each year to fund all major
U.S. transit systems. I'd be glad to answer any questions, or personally
help you plan your transit trip to DEPLETED GERANIUMS.

 All lesser-evil
 liberals crawl and whine "I'd
 rather switch than fight!"

--------8 of 8--------

 Linguistic Convention

"Lesser-evil liberal" takes 7 syllables, way more than they are worth.
"Lessevlib" is 3, but it's still too many, and it's hard to say.
"Leelib" is only 2, is easy to say, and is appropriately dismissive.
(In face-to-face conversation, any rude gesture is a widely understood
substitute, and takes 0 syllables. Thus, the above haiku could become:
All [rude gesture] crawl and whine "I'd
    rather switch than fight!"
 - a 10-syllable neo-haiku for all those people too busy to read 17. And
besides, it's really fun to perform.)
