Sample letter:

Dear Senator Coleman,

I am writing to let you know that the president of my denomination, the Rev.
William Sinkford of the Unitarian Universalists, will be on Capitol Hill
this Wednesday, October 10th, and will be coming to your office to convey
our urgent message that it is time to end the war in Iraq.

As a long time Unitarian and as your constituent, I want to be sure you know
that Rev. Sinkford's message speaks for me.

Every time President Bush or Congressional leaders say we don't have the
money for health care, childhood education, or safe and functional roads and
transit, I find myself asking the same question: couldn't the half-trillion
dollars spent on the war have re-made America over these past several years
into a nation that cares for those in need?

Rev. Sinkford calls for not one more dollar, not one more life to be
sacrificed before there is a plan for withdrawal. I agree. We need from
you in Congress and from President Bush an immediate and actionable plan to
end this war.

As a person of faith, I believe it is a moral imperative to make real plans
- concrete steps to de-escalate and de-militarize the disaster in Iraq. No
justification exists for staying indefinitely as Mr. Bush seems to be
positioning us.

You have called for a symbolic withdrawal of 5,000 troops before year's end.
An interesting start, but we need more than symbolism; we need intense, bold
leadership on the world stage of diplomacy.

This war will end because of a political solution - not a military one. A
meaningful plan for phased and speedy withdrawal needs to be part of that
political resolve.
