The video showing of vignettes from A Force More Powerful, originally scheduled for February 16, has been rescheduled for March 29th
A FORCE MORE POWERFUL
MONDAY, MARCH 29, 6:30 PM Hospitality Hall, St. Joan of Arc Church 4537 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis
These moving documetaries show the tremendous power of nonviolent action in effecting governments and nations.
Two vignettes will be shown, the first demonstrating how Danish leaders, following the German military invasion of Denmark, used a strategy of "resistance disguised as collaboration" to rescue all but a handful of
Denmark's seven thousand Jews. A second vignette shows how Chilean
workers, under the severe repression of the Pinochet government, initiated a
wave of nonviolent protests which led to his defeat in a 1988 referendum.
The presentation will be followed by discussion and practical application to our local peace work.
We hope you will come and bring your friends. Peace in the struggle,

We need your help!
On Friday, March 26 at 8:30 a.m., a caravan of buses in route to Washington DC will be stopping at the Woodbury Lutheran Church Food Shelf. This AFL-CIO bus tour is traveling cross-country to raise awareness about the devastating effect the jobs crisis is having on working people.
We need 20 people to give these folks a warm Minnesota welcome and who would be willing to bring food to help replenish the food bank. This food shelf helps families who live in Oakdale, Landfall, South Maplewood and Woodbury. Statistics show that there has been a 14% increase over last years need.
To participate or for further details, please call Lynne Larkin-Wright at 651-222-3787 extension 16 or email her at larkinl [at] mtn.org.
Please help us to shed light on the fact that the job crisis is having an impact on all workers in our community, not just the core cities.

Workers at Coca-Cola factories in Colombia started a hunger strike on March 15th to protest Coke's heinous crimes against humanity and violations of labor rights. MINNESOTANS AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY
Please attend the Senate Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee Hearing on the death penalty bill! We need to fill the hearing room and show our opposition!
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24 - 12:30-3pm Room 15 - Minnesota State Capitol
A press conference featuring some of the witnesses who will testify at the hearing will take place at 12 noon, either at the hearing room or on the front steps of the Capitol.
Minnesotans Against the Death Penalty (MNADP) was formed to fight the potential reinstatement of the death penalty in Minnesota. During the 2003 legislative session a death penalty bill was introduced. The governor has now called on the legislature to pass an amendment to the Minnesota State Constitution to require the use of the death penalty in the Minnesota court system. This matter is being pursued during the 2004 session. We are opposed to any efforts that would bring the death penalty to our state. Our work includes raising public awareness and mobilizing support in our communities. MNADP was also created in opposition to increased attempts by the U.S. Department of Justice to apply the death penalty to recent federal court cases brought in states that do not have the death penalty, including Minnesota. For further information call: 651-649-4618 or visit www.mnadp.org.
Amnesty International is also urging all concerned citizens to attend. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
(March 16, 2004) The Ulster County (NY) District Attorney has charged two
Unitarian Universalist ministers with solemnizing unlicensed marriage
after the ministers performed civil marriages for more than twenty same-sex
couples in New Paltz, NY. The ministers, the Rev. Kay Greenleaf and the
Rev. Dawn Sangrey, along with the Rev. Marion Visel, a UU minister from
Wesport, CT, began performing the marriage ceremonies after the Mayor of New Paltz, Jason West, ceased officiating at same-sex marriages on March 6. West has had the same charges levied against him by the Ulster County DA.
Sangrey and Greenleaf signed affidavits for the couples they married and
said they considered the ceremonies civil and legally binding. Ulster
County District Attorney Don Williams said he was compelled to prosecute
Greenleaf and Sangrey because they "publicly proclaimed their intent to perform civil marriages under the authority invested in them by New York State law, rather than performing purely religious ceremonies."
If convicted of the charges, the ministers could spend a year in prison and be fined up to $500 each. The ministers will be arraigned on March 22.
In commenting on the charges levied against Sangrey and Greenleaf, the
Rev. William G. Sinkford, President of the Unitarian Universalist Association
today issued the following statement:
"Unitarian Univeralists strongly support marriage equality for same-sex
couples. Our ministers have been officiating at religious marriages for
same-sex couples for more than thirty-five years, and our ministers have
happily signed marriage licenses recently for civil marriages for same-sex
couples in San Francisco and Oregon. Unitarian Universalism honors
ministerial independence in matters of conscience, and the Unitarian
Universalist Association supports the right of our ministers in New York
State to act on their best judgment on these issues. Unitarian
Universalists believe that equal marriage rights for all is a matter of justice. And in the long run, we have faith that justice will prevail. Unitarian
Universalists are proud to stand on the side of love."
