*The Complexity of the Struggle of African Descendants in Cuba Today* 1:00 pm Saturday, November 14 Sabathani Community Center Tomás Fernández Robaina with special guest Al McFarlane, Jr. Tomás Fernández Robaina is a researcher at la Biblioteca Nacional in Havana and a professor at the University of Havana. He is a prolific author on AfroCuban issues and is also a member of UNEAC, the Cuban national arts organization, and of the Cuban National Committee on Slave Routes and a board member of several other organizations devoted to anti-racist issues. His extensive bibliography and curriculum vitae can be viewed at www.afrocubaweb.com. Professor Robaina will be coming to the Twin Cities as part of a nationwide speaking tour. Al McFarlane, Jr. is well known in the Twin Cities as a journalist and civil rights activist. He is publisher of *Insight News, *serving the African-American community of Minneapolis-St. Paul, and hosts *Conversations with Al McFarlane, *Tuesdays at 9:00 am, on KFAI-FM radio. An Afro-Cuban descendant himself, Al McFarlane is well acquainted with issues of race in Cuba as well as in the United States. The program will be preceded by *Raza*, a 2008 independent Cuban documentary about racial issues in Cuba. The discussion will be moderated by August H. Nimtz, Professor of Political Science and African American and African Studies and Distinguished Teaching Professor, University of Minnesota.
