Resource Center of the Americas
3019 Minnehaha Avenue South, Suite 20
Minneapolis, MN<>

The Cuban revolution faces important challenges in 2011 as it implements
major economic reforms and through an April Communist Party Congress that
will work to identify a new generation of revolutionary leaders.

Gary Prevost, Professor of Political Science and Latin American Studies at
the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University, and August Nimtz,
Professor of Political Science at the University of Minnesota, will lead a
discussion on these important issues. Both have authored books and
articles about Cuba as well as researched and traveled there extensively.

The program is cosponsored by the Minnesota Cuba Committee, which for
twenty years has educated Minnesotans on Cuba and worked to end the U.S.

Subject: Budget/pancakes 2.12 11am

We decided at the UHCAN-MN mtg last monday to hold an Open Community Mtg
to discuss the MN state budget deficit and how to solve it without cutting
essential services to the young, old, persons with dis-abilities,and the
poor. Health care costs drive the budget and as a result are crowding out
not only health care services, but education, transportation,
environmental sustainability programs, and many other social programs.
This has reached fiscal crisis proportions, so it's urgent that we meet.
This is especially important as 95,000 people are being shifted into MN's
Medicaid program, and step number one is to make sure these folks can stay
in the public sector, and not be outsourced to expensive private HMO

Open Community Meeting:
Walker Church (3104 16th ave s,Mpls,55406,near Lake str & Bloomington
ave), basement dining hall.
11am, saturday, Feb12.

We can partake in the pancake breakfast benefit for the Women's Prison
Book Project, and at 2pm at Hosmer Library (36th street between 3rd abd
4th avenues) will be a Blues/Swing music performance in the basement.

Come Celebrate and Speak Out for Democracy and Human Rights in Egypt!!
There is to be an Egyptian Celebration Rally at 2 pm tomorrow, Saturday, Feb
12 at the State Capitol in St. Paul.

With all the ready-available snow and ice in Minnesota, we had this light
bulb go off that it must be good for something!! We've done a lot with
snow before and peace signs, but could we try to fashion an Egyptian
Pyramid out of the snow in front of the Capitol in solidarity with the
people of Egypt? We'll give it a try at about 11 am if anyone would like
to help so it's done in time for the rally. Snow artists needed! Coleen
